Children traveling without proper safety restraints; negligent motorist faces opposition following sighting of unsupervised youngsters behind the wheel
On August 25, a 32-year-old woman from Dortmund found herself in a series of unexpected encounters with local law enforcement. The incident began at the corner of Deipenbeckstraße/Frenkingstraße, where the woman's Mercedes was stopped for an overdue main inspection.
During the first stop, the woman paid a fine of 35 Euro on the spot. However, a concerning issue came to light as her three small children, aged 4, 5, and 7, were not secured with child seats. In response, the officers prohibited the woman from continuing her journey without appropriate child seats. Despite this, the children were again not secured with child seats during the second stop, which occurred just minutes later on the provincial road.
During the second stop, the woman showed no understanding and behaved increasingly aggressively. She refused to hand over her car key and attempted to hide it in her handbag. The officers, concerned for safety reasons, wanted to secure the woman's car key.
The woman's resistance during the search was significant. In the patrol car, she insulted the officers in Turkish. One of the officers, who also speaks Turkish, understood the insults.
As a result of her behaviour, the woman was temporarily arrested and taken to the Lütgendortmund police station. A report on administrative offenses was made, and a report was sent to the competent road traffic authority.
Furthermore, the woman faces criminal charges for resisting enforcement officers and insults. However, the police did not provide information about any further actions taken against the woman after the second stop.
It is important to note that there is no publicly available information about the specific criminal case number (Strafverfahrensnummer) that the Dortmund police have opened against the 32-year-old woman from Dortmund.
This incident serves as a reminder of the importance of adhering to traffic regulations, particularly when it comes to the safety of children. It is crucial for all drivers to ensure their children are properly secured in child seats during travel.
